Description
A traditional Indian board game made from the finest elephant poo paper available in India.
The box consists of a scrolled up board of snakes and ladders, a pouch with four tokens made with elephant dung pulp and dice made from waste wood.
Snakes and Ladders was inspired by a game called Moksha Patamu, played widely in ancient India. It was perhaps invented by Hindu spiritual leaders to teach children about the effects of good deeds against bad deeds. The Ladders represented virtues such as generosity, faith, etc and the Snakes represented vices such as lust, anger, etc. The moral of the game was that salvation (Moksha) can be attained with good deeds, while with evil deeds one is reborn in the lower forms of life (Patamu).
